St. Joe's favorite ice cream shop got its humble start in 1990.  

Dave & Patty Burns purchased Cabana in 1993 and the business quickly outgrew the tiny 360 sq. ft. space.    ​

The Burnses decided to build a new 1200 sq. ft. building just south of the existing location.

​


​It opened in 1999.

​Meanwhile, their son Scott was also getting into the Cabana business.  He opened up Cabana Grill on St. Joe Ave. in 2001.  

The building had previously been a Henry's, Ford's, and Maid-Rite.

It received a facelift in 2012.

Scott purchased the S. Belt Cabana from his parents in 2006.  

His sons would later become the third generation of Burnses to work at the restaurants.

Cabana added sandwiches and sides to its menu in 2016 and began staying open all year long in 2018.
